Morgan Lewis will serve as a co-sponsor of the upcoming 2026 MPI Alumni Conference of 9 October, celebrating 60 years of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition.
Hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in collaboration with the MPI Alumni Association, the conference will bring together representatives from academia, private practice, public institutions, and the judiciary to discuss current developments in patent litigation, artificial intelligence, innovation, and competition.
The programme will focus on two key topics:
Three Years of the UPC– Perspectives from the Sidelines
Three years after the launch of the Unified Patent Court, this panel will examine the UPC from the perspective of neighbouring and nonparticipating jurisdictions and consider its interaction with national patent systems and the wider European patent litigation landscape.
Fostering Openness and Diversity in AI Innovation and Competition
Two panels will explore the role of open-source and other open licensing models in AI development and commercialisation, including their potential impact on market entry, innovation, competition, access to critical inputs, and diversity across the AI value chain.
The conference will be followed by an evening reception at the Lenbachhaus, including guided tours of the Der Blaue Reiter collection and a conference dinner at Restaurant ELLA.
