Best of the Bar: Get to Know Our Honorees, Philadelphia Business Journal

Monday, November 2, 2020

Morgan Lewis partners John Gorman, Michael Puma, and Erin Randolph-Williams were recognized by the Philadelphia Business Journal in its 2020 Best of the Bar list. The annual list recognizes the top lawyers in Philadelphia based on significant and recent achievements, including the legal significance, size of results, and business impact of the work.

John Gorman, managing partner of the firm’s Wilmington office, was recognized for his efforts in obtaining a $2.95 million trial jury verdict for a shoe company in a design patent infringement case. John spoke about potential changes to the legal profession as a result of the pandemic. “Remote proceedings will not replace live events when the pandemic ends,” John said. “But the experience has proven they are viable, and lawyers will use them more in the future.”

Michael Puma was recognized for his complex labor and employment litigation work for major retailers and other household names, and how remote proceedings have changed his practice. In the article, Michael also discussed a common misconception about lawyers, explaining that “they are problem solvers who use creativity to find a solution for a business objective within the controlling legal framework.”

Recognized for her work in a $12.6 billion merger, Erin Randolph-Williams also discussed the legal profession’s next steps toward increasing diversity, including the need for more women lawyers and lawyers of color in leadership positions. “From a position of power and oversight, they can make decisions that elevate the voices of those who have traditionally been silenced or unseen in the legal profession. We have to have a seat at the table,” Erin said in the article.
