SAN FRANCISCO, April 4, 2022: Morgan Lewis’s own firm band, Morgan Lewis & ROCKius, took home top honors at the Law Rocks San Francisco battle-of-the-bands event, raising more than $33,000 on behalf of Child Advocates of Silicon Valley. Morgan Lewis partners Joan Haratani, Geoff Holtz, Doug Crisman, and Mike Schlemmer; senior attorney Marisa Chaves; and associate Josh Gurney performed at the eighth annual event, which ranks bands by a combination of fundraising dollars, ticket sales, and musical prowess.
Morgan Lewis & ROCKius started in 2015 as a fun way for the firm’s Northern California lawyers to share their creative talents. The band typically includes nine members from the firm with outside help from family and friends—often crowding as many as 15 people on stage. The band’s drummer, Joan, has been referred to as the “spirit of the band” who “literally sets the beat that keeps us aligned.”
Since 2009, Law Rocks has provided an opportunity for the global legal community to bring attention and funding to deserving local nonprofits through band fundraising competitions in cities around the world (with the San Francisco competition starting in 2015). Trumpet player Mike also sits on the board of Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, which serves foster youth in the Santa Clara County Dependency Court System from birth to 21 years old. Child Advocates ensures foster youth mentoring and support by providing stable adult court-appointed advocates, influencing foster youth policies, and building community partnerships. Morgan Lewis is proud to provide pro bono counsel and financial support to the organization.
