New Data Protection Law to Loosen Regulatory Burden, Ease AI Restrictions, International Employment Lawyer

Associate William Mallin was quoted in an International Employment Lawyer article discussing the United Kingdom’s new Data Use and Access Act, which introduces changes to how companies handle personal and employee data and automated decision-making.

“When implementing automated decision-making software, employers should be mindful in particular of their AI regulatory, data protection and anti-discrimination related obligations. As a matter of general principle, meaningful human involvement in the decision-making process is a key legal risk mitigating step that employers should implement where possible and appropriate,” William said. “Employers should also keep in mind their transparency obligations with respect to automated decision-making, including by reviewing privacy notices to address potential gaps,” he added.
