Morgan Lewis Continues IP Litigation Expansion with Arrival of Leading ITC Partner Matt Rizzolo
January 08, 2026WASHINGTON, DC, January 8, 2026: Morgan Lewis continues to bolster its IP litigation bench by welcoming Matthew (Matt) Rizzolo as a partner in the firm’s intellectual property (IP) practice, resident in Washington, DC. Matt’s arrival further strengthens the team’s capabilities in high-stakes IP disputes at the US International Trade Commission (ITC), district courts, and other key venues. Matt joins from Ropes & Gray, where he led the firm’s Section 337 ITC practice and represented clients in complex IP and unfair competition disputes across the United States and globally.
Matt’s arrival reflects Morgan Lewis’s ongoing strategic investment in talented IP trial lawyers across key US and international jurisdictions in response to increased client demand for assistance in technology-driven patent disputes before the ITC, district courts, the Unified Patent Court, and other IP dispute venues.
“Matt brings deep experience in ITC investigations and patent disputes involving an expansive range of cutting-edge technologies such as semiconductors, consumer electronics, software, internet-based technologies, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “His addition enhances our firm’s ability to support clients facing complex IP litigation across multiple technologies, IP hubs, and dispute venues—helping to meet our clients’ needs wherever and whenever they arise.”
Matt represents clients in Section 337 ITC proceedings, patent litigation in US federal district courts, proceedings before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the US Patent and Trademark Office, and related international arbitrations. His experience also includes litigating a range of IP and unfair competition disputes, including Lanham Act trademark and false advertising, copyright infringement, and trade secret misappropriation actions, as well as disputes involving IP licenses and other contracts.
“We’re seeing an increasing trend of clients having to confront IP disputes on multiple fronts involving parallel proceedings, significant technical complexity, and global implications,” said Louis Beardell, Jr., leader of the firm’s global IP practice. “Matt’s substantial ITC, trial, and technical experience adds depth to our US litigation bench, which will help clients manage this complexity, and broadens the powerful capabilities of our IP disputes team across offices and around the world.”
Matt’s arrival follows the firm’s recent addition of IP litigation partners from Knobbe Martens in Seattle and Orange County, as well as IP litigators in Washington, DC, San Francisco, New York, London, Munich, and Paris—reinforcing Morgan Lewis’s IP litigation capabilities in major innovation centers. Globally, the firm has added 19 IP partners in the past 18 months.
