Ahead of her speaking engagement at Legalweek 2026, chief AI and knowledge officer Colleen Nihill sat down with Legaltech News for a Q&A on the impact artificial intelligence (AI) is having on the legal industry. Colleen discussed the future of the billable hour, supporting attorneys through changes in their practice, and more.

In discussing how firms can differentiate themselves when adopting new AI tools, Colleen said, “It’s less about saying you have the tools. It’s more important to say how you’re using them, and we’re seeing more clients ask about that specifically to provide examples.”

When asked what she’d like attendees to take away from her Legalweek session, she said she hopes they’ll gain an “understanding that it’s less about splashy words like ‘innovation’ and much more about operational excellence and ensuring people are creating sustainable models in order to help law firms do this.”
