February 01, 2026

Partners Tim Powell and Hiroshi Sheraton co-authored an article in The Licensing Journal examining a recent UK Patents Court decision on jurisdiction in disputes involving reasonable and nondiscriminatory (RAND) licensing of standard essential patents . The article explains the court’s decision that it has the authority to set the terms of global RAND licenses for video codec technologies and to grant the interim licenses requested by Acer and ASUSTeK.
