The UK Consumer Protection Regime and Trends in Class Actions

From April 6, 2025, the United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) can exercise new powers to investigate suspected consumer protection violations and impose hefty fines on noncompliant businesses.

Under the new regulatory regime, collective proceedings from affected consumers or third parties may rise substantially, as claimants could invoke a CMA finding of a consumer protection violation, significantly reducing the evidentiary burden on them.

As part of our Class & Collective Actions: Global Trends and Impacts Series, join us for a webinar discussing what the new UK regime looks like, its potential impacts on the class actions space, and a perspective on global class action regulations and trends when it comes to consumer protection matters.

TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:

  • An overview of the UK consumer protection regime changes and potential class action outcomes
  • Results of the EU Representative Actions Directive and the scope of class actions in the region
  • A comparison with US policies regarding consumer protection class actions
  • An outlook for class actions in the United Kingdom based on these global trends and opportunities
