The UK enjoyed the highest value of M&A deals in Europe last year as telecoms and media takeovers peaked. The TMT sector saw the biggest growth worldwide in terms of M&A, up 4%, compared to financial services which slipped 3%.  The forces of innovation and disruption that are accelerating business life cycles are strongest in the TMT sector, generating widespread global M&A activity. 

More and more deals are about getting access to the target’s IP, or the team that created it, with dealmakers often failing to realise its true value.  A well-advised buyer will know how to realise the full value of the portfolio it is seeking to buy whilst recognising the bear traps it must avoid.
