Trends in Greenhouse Gases and Chemical Regulation: Federal Deregulation and Potential State Reaction

The US administration is pursuing a broad deregulatory agenda in the environmental space, particularly with respect to greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction and chemical regulations. At the same time, California and other states are reacting and looking to maintain certain requirements and limitations, leading to federal pushback on those state regulatory efforts.

This presentation will explore the current condition of federal and state GHG and chemical regulations, including EPA’s Endangerment Finding rescission and its proposed methane and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) rollbacks, in contrast to state regulatory efforts like California’s GHG reporting and climate change disclosure rules. It will also look forward to potential future developments, including planned regulatory and deregulatory efforts and the litigation over California’s vehicle tailpipe standards.
