Morgan Lewis Advises MSP Sports Capital on Acquisition of Majority Stake in New Zealand SailGP Team
June 19, 2026NEW YORK, June 19, 2026: Morgan Lewis represented MSP Sports Capital in connection with its entry into a definitive agreement to acquire a majority stake in the New Zealand SailGP Team, known as the Black Foils. The agreement was announced on June 19; the closing of the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
MSP Sports Capital is a New York–based private investment firm that makes equity and credit investments across the global sports industry. MSP was founded by veteran investor-operators Jahm Najafi and Jeff Moorad, whose expertise spans the world’s largest sports leagues, including MLB, NBA, NFL, F1, and European football. With the acquisition, the New Zealand SailGP team is added to MSP’s global sports portfolio that includes or has included the X Games League, McLaren Racing, and Everton FC.
