How to Defend Against SEP Assertions

In this extra installment of Better Safe Than Sorry, Alexander Ritter, a patent lawyer from our Munich office and Makoto Hattori, an attorney and patent attorney from Abe, Ikubo & Katayama Law Firm, will present a special seminar focusing on how to defend against standard essential patent (SEP) assertions in Europe and Japan.

In the first half of the seminar, Alex will give a detailed presentation of how to defend against SEP assertions in Europe, covering the latest developments in the Unified Patent Court and German courts and how their proceedings interrelate with foreign fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) rate setting proceedings.

In the second half of the seminar, Makoto will explain in detail the concept of injunction claims based on SEPs in Japan, including Japan's first SEP injunction order, and how to effectively use preliminary injunctions for patent infringement.

Participants can access this seminar both online and in-person at our Tokyo office. A reception will follow for in-person attendees.
